300 win. mag. to 30 Ackley Mag #2

I'm trying to resize some 300 win. mag. brass to fit my 30 Ackley Mag. #2. when I lower the shoulder it crinkles the new shoulder. Any ideas? I havent yet tried to trim the case first but I thought I might try that next.

I have no clue to what a 30 ackley is but I can say this. When useing a bigger case to make a somewhat smaller one will give you what you are getting.Whats happening is you are now useing some of the shoulder/body of the 300wm to make the new case.By doing this and that area being thicker causes that part of the brass to be pushed into a new tighter area causing the wrinkles.

one thing that might help would be to anneal the area that is being resized and wrinkleing on you now.

just a thought, did you really mean a 30 Ackley or a 300 Ackley. If you ment a 300 Ackley then you shouldn't need to resize with a die.Plus I think that a 300wm is to small for a 300 Ackley to even fire form for a 300 Ackley.Again I do not know of anything of a 30 Ackley just saying thats all.

Book I have said to use the 300 H&H case then form in the #2 FL sizer with expander removed then trim then FL size with expander then fireform. If you have a 300 H&H trim die can take the 300mag case and get rid of the shoulders using that die then use #2.

Definately a 30 ackley mag #2. I hadnt considered that the brass may be thicker in that area of the casing. Annealing may help

I knew that the 300 H&H brass would work but was hoping that the more available 300 win mag could be made to work.

I'm posting about the 30 Ackley mag #2 which has a longer body than the 30 Ackley mag #1.

annealing isn't going to help. the length of the 300mag body is longer and without changing the shoulder angle first all your going to do is what your experiencing. Nothing in that die will support those shoulder from the inside as your trying to shorten that case body by .134" so it's going to push that back into the existing shoulders or little bulge at the shoulder/case body etc. If you look at the shoulder angle on the 300 H&H it's only 8 degree and that form in for new shoulders.

Roper,

Which book are you using for your info? I would like to find one with some reloading data.
