50 cal Traditions pistol

Can I shoot conicals with this pistol, and if so, what loads do you recommend? I am new to this B/P game but I LOVE it. Thanks in advance for your help. jvw7

Traditions makes the Vortek inline pistol that's designed for hunting with conicals and heavy powder charges. They also make traditional sidelock pistols.
Assuming that you have a sidelock pistol, can you describe it or tell us the model?
Below is the PDF owner's manual for all Traditions sidelock pistols and rifles.
Page 5 of the PDF gives the most accurate and the maximum round ball charges, and directly underneath the chart it states:

Quote:

Conical Projectiles

Conical projectiles must be loaded without patches. If they are not purchased prelubricated, they must be greased with Traditions™ WonderLube or any commercial black powder bullet lube.
The most accurate load for a conical projectile is usually 5 to 10 grains above those for round balls.
Maximum powder loads* for these projectiles in each caliber are identical to those noted above for round balls.
Conical projectiles must fit tightly. {See Recommended Loads)
Remember if using 777 powder then reduce its volume by 15% due to its increased potency.

Good luck and be sure to visit TFL's Black Powder and Cowboy Action Shooting forum.
