Can anybody tell me when the SIG Model 227 pistol was introduced? Thanks.

"Upgrading" is not a term I would use if you are considering selling your P220 to buy the 227. I talked to the SIG guys at the NRA convention - best guess was June/July for the 14rd mags. I don't believe you can switch the grip(s) to G10 or aluminum, the 227 10rd capacity is/has been available in the 220 FOREVER, and the E2 grip is a no-go for me.
However, if the larger grip fits you (you shoot better with it), then enjoy the 227. Nice firearm, just not sure it's better than a 220, 226, etc..... Good luck and enjoy your range time.

More disturbing to me is the ridiculously high prices wanted for spare factory mags for the Model 227-if you can find them. I just paid $45.00 for one at my lgs (I like to have at least three magazines for any semi-auto pistol I own) but I wasn't happy doing so. A real rip-off in my estimation.

$45 for a mag doesn't bother me too much. My damn HK 45 and USP 45 mags are $60. I have 10 for the USP... only 3 for the HK 45 so far. Those are a one-at-a-time affair.
Hopefully MecGar will start pumping out 227 mags. I replace all my 229/226 mags with MecGar versions anyways. I would certainly like to give the 227 a shot - both literally and figuratively. My 220 Elite Dark is pretty nice, but I would probably consider trading it. The 227 is especially interesting to me for the upcoming 14rd mags.

Sig 227
I have a Sig 227 SAS and I am getting better at firing it a accurately because I was used to firing 9 mm. After a few trips to the range and not letting the muzzle ride up I have gotten better. Usually only shoot about 50 rounds each time and now that is after 100 rounds of 9mm. I was suprised how much better I have been able to hit the bullseye. Maybe it is the once or twice a week range time that helps also.

I was really excited for the 227 until I realized the flush fit mags only hold 10 rounds. Considering all the mags I have already, there is no reason for me to "upgrade" from my P220 or a 1911.
If I see one for a decent price (say CPO or some such) I'll still consider one, just not gonna jump for a NIB one myself. |
