True, but you must have excessively high levels for it to be a problem.
Copper salts are the more toxic form. The salts are used in fungicides.

The only thing copper is highly toxic to, are certain pathogens like Legionnaire's disease and some Staphylococcus strains.


Copper is actually an essential trace mineral for almost all plants and animals.

The recommended daily allowance of copper for humans ranges from 0.9 to 3.0 mg. That's a pretty decent amount. More than a 'trace', I would say.
