Bobbing the hammer / reliable ignition?

I use my Smith 637 frequently in a Mika pocket holster. I have found that when I practice drawing it, the hammer spur catches on the top of my pocket. So, I am thinking of removing the hammer spur to eliminate the problem. I normally practice shooting the revolver double action and rarely if ever use the single action mode, so nothings lost there. My question is that with the loss of the spur, the hammer is a bit lighter. Is there a reliability problem with the lighter hammer in setting off the round? Will I get light strikes & FTF? The hammer spring is factory original.

TIA
Roger

Maybe someone else has had experience with this particular model, and can be more helpful. I've bobbed the hammer on 2 Rugers and had no problems, and didn't have to install a stronger spring. Never done this to a Smith though.

I have bobbed a lot of hammers and never seen any loss of reliability unless someone also reduced the mainspring power rating. Some of my race guns have extremely chopped down hammers, they work every time.

drail is right. I also have bobbed a lot of hammers on double action revolvers, and had no problems as long as the standard power spring, as a minimum, is used.

Thank you all for your information. The hammer will be bobbed today.
