The Hulk Hog Hunt

Crazy winter temperatures got hogs moving all over this property.
Gotta love Texas Spring weather.
This has to be the most muscular boar I have ever laid my hands on.

Your videos are some of the best hunting ones. Not a lot of endless chatter, just to the point and great thermal camera vids. Good shooting, too.

What happened with the 7.62x39? Pig get away or did you eventually find it?

Love the 6.5 Hammer shots! Dang.

Also surprised at the SST. With that short barrel, what velocity are you getting? That Hammer is a Beast Slammer!

I wondered about the SST as well. Guessed the velocity was too low for proper expansion. I’ve heard a few people complain about SSTs not performing well.

Thanks for the great videos

Your videos are surely some of the best on The Firing Line. Hunting hogs without the self-imposed drama common to many hunting videos. Thanks for posting.

My brain has been on overdrive since the 7.62x39 shot.
I absolutely despise hogs and what they do to landowners property.
But I also don't like to see anything suffer.

I went and watched some of my earlier videos setting up this gun.
What I "believe" happened. Is I zeroed the rifle when it was hot.
I've less than 30 shots down this pipe, meaning copper hasn't established an equilibrium yet.
That being said, I believe my cold bore zero is way off. Like maybe 4-8" off.
I'll get to test my theory this weekend.
Going to temperature the barrel
Send one shot down. Mark it.
Let it cool down to the same starting temperature. Take another shot. Mark it.
Then make adjustments as needed.

My first AR was a 7.62x39 and killed hog after hog after hog with the caliber.
At the distance I was shooting it was still delivering over 1600ft.lbf of energy at point of impact.

I'll get it ironed out. Stay tuned.

I am thinking about going hog hunting again. Last time I went with my dad (US Army veteran) we got skunked. If anyone could pm me a decent outfit I would appreciate it.
