anyone reload a 222

I just bought a browning a bolt in 222remington. would love to get some pet loads from ya'll . I plan on using it mainly for under 200 yard predator hunting and target shooting . any sugestions would be great...thanks

I had a Douglas Premium barreled Sako action gun in .222 which worked well with the following. NOTE: DO NOT USE ANY LOAD LISTED HERE UNLESS YOU CAN CONFIRM IT AS SAFE IN A RECOGNIZED, PUBLISHED LOADING MANUAL.

I had several boxes of new Win brass from the same lot number. I trimmed cases, turned outsides of necks using Marquart tool, and used Neil Jones bench rest dies and arbor press. My gun liked 20.5 gr IMR4198 with 52-53 gr Nosler and Sierra bullets. It did not like 53 gr Hornady bullets. My gun did not like Rel 7 powder and H322 was so-so (3/4" groups). Five shot groups from bench at 100 yds with IMR 4198 were frequently under half an inch. Experiment with seating depth to see if it affects accuracy.

I've had good accuracy with Benchmark powder and IMR 4198
BLC-2 and H 322.

I've been doing the 222 thing for about 30 years now. I love it. Mine is a Rem 700, ADL, that shoots just about everything very well. What I mean is sub MOA without having to work at it very hard.

I love powders that meter well through my Uniflow, and two of my favorites are H-335 and BL-C(2). Powders like this make individual weighing unnecessary IMO, and let you focus on other accuracy issues. I do best when I use all same brand cases, and all trimmed together.

I've probably shot my best groups with 50 gr. Sierras, but lately have been messing around with the lighter v-max and varmint grenades.

You've chosen a great rifle and cartridge for what you want to do, and if you're like me, you'll never feel the need to step up to the larger 22's. I'm about at the limits of my skill at 200 yds., and I don't think that a noisier, heavier recoiling 22 will improve my preformance.

The 222 is a dream to load for, and I've got cases that have been loaded eleventy seven or so times.

I don't think you have that kind of luck with 220's or 22-250's

1) WW brass, RP 7 1/2 primer,21.0 of RL7, 50 grain Speer SP
2)WW brass, CCI 400, 24.0 of BLC2, 52 grain Speer HP
3)RP brass, RP 6 1/2, 20.0 of H4198, Hornady 50gr. SPSX
4) WW brass, RP 7 1/2, 22.5 of H322, Speer 50 grain SP

Use a factory RP 50 grain round to set your seating die and set the lock ring so that the OAL is the same as the factory load; 2.130". All these are hot but safe in my M700 BDL. All 4 loads will shoot into 1 hole with no wind. Crows DO NOT LIKE THEM!

thanks very much but I must say I already have a 223 and a 22-250 and soon a 220 but thats just because I have an addiction to guns

Yes. That is a sweet cartridge. I prefer to shoot the hornady spire point 55 gr bullets. 3031 powder works fine. Work up your own load. I don't believe you can overcharge it with 3031.
