I'm partial to the Glock 35, but that's me. The new 41 might be cool if you want a .45. Of course the 34 is nice too, at least there's a model there depending on which caliber you decide on.

lots of good recommendations here, and I appreciate the advice, Walt. You may be right on the classes. maybe I can swing classes and one of the possible options at the lower end of my price range. good idea on the TS as well. i'm headed over to the shop later this week. last week they had one on display so I should be sure to ask Stuart if I can give it a quick run.

Lots of nods to longslide 1911's, G34 and the XDm line. I need to find a place with an XDm that I can handle. I might know a place close by that might have one.

For a fun/range only pistol, 1911 style would be the one to get. Glock, XDm, S&W pro, or similar will require a lot of work to get the trigger close to a 1911.

I have a worked Glock 34, factory Xdm 3.8, worked S&W M&P - accuracy is good but 1911 feels a lot better -- all in 9mm.

Again, look at a STI Trojan 6". I would pick 9mm to save on ammo cost
Not 6" but EAA witness match in 9mm would be one to consider, too.

One of my students bought an STI Trojan 5 9mm" after shooting my GF's. The trigger on his was a little rough but can easily be cleaned off. It shot very well, too.

40CalGuy: I have two pistols on order that could meet your requirements: a RIA 6" Match (without rail) coming in next week, and a Glock 41 whenever the blue label dealer finishes fulfilling law enforcement orders (GSSF coupon).

Anything in particular you want me to look for or at when the guns come in?

to sate my desires for now, i'm building a glock 34/35. I've ordered a new full sized frame and will replace all of the internals minus the ejector on the frame. the slide will get a full internals replacement. I'll also be adding a magwell and some +8 competition mags. i'm still picking out a compensator for the 9mm conversion barrel. I have a LWD nickel boron 40-9 comp, but I don't think i'll like the way it will look on here. I have a Maverick comp for the 40cal G35 setup. I won't actually be competing with this gun. I just want to deck it out. the co-witness sights will be replaced with AmeriGlo Tritiums or Trijicons that will still allow co-witness.

Sorry, this is not in stock. However, this guy is who got me MINE, almost exactly three years ago. IIRC, the gent I dealt with is named Brad, and I'm assuming this business is his baby. I found the pistol on Gunbroker, his active auctions can be found here:

This was my first Gunbroker buy of an actual firearm, and I figured the liability would be (relatively) low as it was a new firearm. The experience I had with them was top notch and they shipped a phenomenal handgun to my FFL in short order.

I just put another 150 rounds through it yesterday and it still makes me feel like a genius for picking it out and taking a chance on it. What a fantastic handgun.
