No federal laws, unless you use the punt guns to shoot waterfowl.

I belive all front stuffers are good to go no matter guage/caliber save projectiles that can be classified as destructive devices on their own.

As Bill said-No for waterfowl hunting.
They were popular for waterfowl way back early 1900s. Shot all kinds of stuff out of em, nails, nuts, bolts and whatever you could get. |

It would be possible to make a punt gun from high pressure steel tubing.
A 2 gauge would have would be about 1.33"ID. Just remember to mount it on a boat. |

American Guns used a piece of drill stem, a very heavy wall steel pipe, with high tensile strength (drill stem rotates and the drill bit catches and drags as the drill encounters rocks, etc.). BATF exempts certain classes of guns so that's what they build.

Had a buddy in college that made 2 of them. One shot golf balls the other shot pepsi cans filled with concrete.

The punt guns were typically used for market hunting. The NYC Jamaica Bay is now a refuge for waterfowl but 100 years ago it was a prime market hunting area.
Now that a number of aircraft have had serious bird strike problems there is talk about hunting to cut the goose numbers .JFK airport is right on Jamaica Bay !
