Savage Model 99 Sling options?

I just purchased a Savage Model 99. It has no sling swivels and I really do not want to drill into the stock.

Immediate sling options seem to be either get a muzzleloader lace-up sling or just not having a sling at all...

OR replacing the screw already in the front of the stock with a swivel and utilizing the screw in the grip cap and replacing it with a swivel... bad idea?

What are your suggestions?

Thanks!
Andrew

don't

If you don't want to drill, don't.

Seems like there are some slings made for shotguns that feature loops on either end that might be sufficient. A bit of shopping should find some.

Cabela's is always a good start, as is Midway.

My first field rifle was a model 99 and believe me, after a long day in the hills, the last thing you'll want to do is carry that heavy thing all the way home all while trying to tug a deer behind you. Mine was drilled by grandpa, and if it was good enough for him....
