Savage Model 99 Sling options?
I just purchased a Savage Model 99. It has no sling swivels and I really do not want to drill into the stock.
Immediate sling options seem to be either get a muzzleloader lace-up sling or just not having a sling at all... OR replacing the screw already in the front of the stock with a swivel and utilizing the screw in the grip cap and replacing it with a swivel... bad idea? What are your suggestions? Thanks! Andrew |

don't
If you don't want to drill, don't.
Seems like there are some slings made for shotguns that feature loops on either end that might be sufficient. A bit of shopping should find some. Cabela's is always a good start, as is Midway. |

My first field rifle was a model 99 and believe me, after a long day in the hills, the last thing you'll want to do is carry that heavy thing all the way home all while trying to tug a deer behind you. Mine was drilled by grandpa, and if it was good enough for him....
