This just plain scares me

the reactions of some folks.

"A man carrying a knife through the Lincoln Von Maur inadvertently triggers an evacuation of the SouthPointe Pavilions store.

A Von Maur employee reported a man carrying a butcher knife around 11:30, according to Officer Katie Flood, LPD.

Store managers were and asked by police to evacuate the building, according to Julie Lattimer, SouthPointe.

Police surrounded the building, carrying shields in anticipation of the suspect.

Police later discovered that the man had already left the scene.

Lattimer said it appears the man was walking through store on his way to a nearby sporting goods store to have the knife sharpened. She said he did not talk to anyone or act in a threatening manner.

Lattimer also said employees at Scheel's said a person matching the man's description had his knife sharpened there."

What we don't know...

... is what was reported to the police.

If they had a scared person call them saying the guy was acting in a threatening or apparently mentally unstable manner, then...

But there are a lot of overly nervous people out there.

Could've been a maniac

This is another example of why butchers knife control legislation is so imperative. We need to do something now! For the children.

Or, they could get a manager with some common sense and a CCW and never have to worry about knives again. Cause what don't we bring to a gunfight?

It's admittedly contingent upon local law, store policy, mall policy, etc... but having one calm person in tow would've saved them an evacuation and an unnecessary police response.

Was it a military-style assault knife?

Could explain the hysteria.

I'm starting to lose a lot of respect for the Cornhusker state. Given the populace's reactions to such things probably explains the populace's support for some of the asinine pro-criminal laws they have.

Wonder if this place was a "gun-free" zone same as that mall in Omaha was/is?

This phrase reminded me of the Va Tech shooting. What kind of mentality is it where you have 30 people in a room, one guy with a gun, and everyone just lines up and waits for their turn to be shot?

Now I'm no hero and I know what intense fear feels like, however when faced with certain death if I don't act or possible death if I do, I'm going to act.

What kind of society have we become?

We have gone from a nation of riflemen, hunters and warriors to a nation of quivering ninnys. Who become apoplexic at the mere possibility of violence.

The tongue-in-cheek responses are funny, and appropriate, but . . .

In England, the papers are full of articles about "knife crime," and how no one needs a pocket knife (which is illegal to have with you).

If you carry a pocket knife (or own knives), take a look at a new group, called Knife Rights.

The man was carrying a rapid fire clip fed black assault knife with bayonet lug and flash hider (it WAS black, right?)

This is true sheep people. Scared far more of 'maybe' than what is.

Funny how when I was in high school I traded a H&R .22 revolver for a Browning .25 Automatic with the shop teacher. We even did it in the parking lot (tis was back in the early 70s!)

What a fit they would throw today if that was done. Off to jail for the lot.

Funny thing is, we seem to have more pedophile teachers (both male and female) than crazed killers. Lots more! Wonder what we would have to ban to get rid if them.

Sorry guys; I agree that this is pretty sad, but it's a long ways from being on topic for tactics and training.

Closed.
