Proper tightening of stock screws
I was wondering what is the correct amount of force for tightening the stock screws on a Winchester Model 70. Also, is there a specific sequence that needs to be followed when I tighten the 3 screws? Thanks, James.

I found this once in a M70 book or magazine. I wrote it down, memorized it, and forgot it immediately upon reading your post!
I think the specific sequence is as follows: Install all screws to hold things in alignment. Tighten receiver ring screw first- very tight. Tighten tang screw second- slightly less tight. Last, tighten middle screw just hand tight. All of course with a properly fitting gunsmith screwdriver... Can anyone check my memory? |
