slipgunning allowed? opinion on colt cowboy

Does SASS allow use of the slipgun?
( For those unfamiliar with this, it is a single action with trigger and other internal parts removed - and hammer spur extended and lowered for let off to be controlled with the web of the gunhand, kind of a 19th century release trigger ).

Whether or not I get into SASS, what is the reputation in your community of the Colt Cowboys that made it out before Colt pulled the plug?

Removing the trigger and lowering/extending the hammer would be considered "external modifications" and are therefore not SASS legal.

While SASS does not allow "fanning", they do allow "slip hammering"...meaning you hold the trigger down and release the hammer manually with the thumb. The modifications and technique you described is a mixture of old time gunfighter and fast draw, where the idea is to get the gun cocked either in the holster or just as it clears leather, followed by a shot from the hip.

SASS rules prohibit a cocked revolver still in the holster, and hip shooting is far too inaccurate for most typical SASS targets. Slip hammering can be very fast for multiple very close and very large targets once you have the gun up in firing position. For distant and small targets, once again, it's much less accurate than simply dropping the hammer with a normal trigger pull.
