Definition of "Sporting Clays Gun"

I know specifically the difference between a trap and a skeet shotgun but I am puzzled as to what a "sporting clays" model shotgun is specifically made for. Any help out there? Regards, Mikey

Mikey,

I shoot a Browning Special Sporting Clays O/U.

It has 28" barrels, Invector (long) choke tubes, both barrels are ported & it has a right hand palm swell.( I shoot left handed )

The stock is straight ( comb is paralell to the barrels )

As for physical difference, the only thing I find is my SSC has 28 in. barrels..... not 30 to 34 in.

The muzzle velocity & pattern are right there with my other trap guns.

I have never shot sporting clays with it, but this years singles TRAP average is 95.16

Hi OtherMikey,

Sporting Clays is a sport, just like skeet is a sport and trap is a sport.

There are several different types of sporting clays including: walk through courses, five stand, flurries and flushes, FITASC. These are controlled by various organizations. Search Sporting Clays and you will find thousands of hits that will provide as much information as you could possibly want.

As to the perfect Sporting Clay Gun. All I will say on this matter is that it should be a .12Ga. Multichoke gun with barrels 30" long or longer with a stock that suits you (drop at comb and heel somewhere between a trap gun and a skeet gun). There isn't enough room on this forum to discuss gunfit, the merits of different shotguns and the subtleties of individual taste as it pertains to the many different aspects shooting performance. However,

ENJOY SHOTGUNNING and try ISSF Skeet.
