Kimber stainless 2 problem.

My friend gave me his stainless 2 and said it was ftf and fte. I took the pistol apart and cleaned everything and reassembled it. After putting it back together and Lube I loaded a mag and hand cycled it. Every round went down the barrel except one ejected. I'm lost! I've never seen this happen and don't know why. Everything was reassembled correctly. Any ideas why this is happening I was For sure using 45 ammo. My friend saw this happen as well. Kimber could not believe it and sent a pre paid shipping label. I'm glad I didn't shoot it after reassembly I feel something bad could have happened. Any input would be great as to why this was happening. We also did this ten more times and had other people witness it. ?

It might be me, but I'm having trouble understanding what exactly happened.

No... it's not just you. Apparently it was sent to Kimber for repair... considering the alternative, a good choice I'd say.

Basically when the gun would go into battery it would push the round down the barrel. Bullet and casing. I mean all the way down and out through the bottom of the barrel. I've never seen this happen and was wondering what would cause this. It's hard to understand I guess , sorry.

Based on what you said, both here and in the PM, it sounds like the cartridge is actually falling, for lack of a better term, all the way though the barrel and out the muzzle. Is that what you're saying?

Like a 9mm falling through a .45 barrel?

Exactly. Sorry I couldn't explain it better. Why would this happen. I tried several different ammo also.

And this is a .45ACP, and the gun was actually working prior to this?

.50GI conversion perhaps?

Yes it is a 45 and the gun was "jamming" I was told. I found out about the rest after inspecting it myself. But my friend told me the gun just was not working.

Fascinating. What you describe is bizarre, and nearly impossible. Do you have a dial caliper you can measure the barrels chamber and bore inside diameters?

I just figured its best to send it to the high price company that made the unsafe thing in the first place.

it sounds like they possibly reamed the whole barrel out to the chamber dimensions... I'm not sure how that could happen, but I have pretty limited machining experience.

If a round is able to fall completely through the chamber into the barrel there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with that barrel (or someone is using the wrong caliber). Replace the barrel. It is really a shame what Kimber has become today. They used to build very fine guns.

He was using only 45acp in it. That's why I posted this here. I couldn't believe this was even possible. It's a brand new gun. Someone could have been injured badly if rapid firing the handgun.

Sound like Kimber ran out of barrels and installed a 1/2 water pipe instead, I don't think any 45acp could have ever been fired through this Kimber.

shoot safe, shoot straight, and have fun

I would be VERY interested to hear Kimber's findings on the issue.

Sounds like a MAJOR QC issue to me!

It probably just needs more "breaking in".

That would be an understatement.
