WTB Pietta REM1858 cylinder SS

Yes, I know I can get them in stainless for 50ish, but I'm looking for a deal. Any connections... or maybe you have one you are willing to part with.

In the military they were with conicals. Civialians if they used anything used OBL. Robert E. Lee's 51 Navy was fired 7 years after his death and it was noted the chambers had a waxy substance on top of the balls. BTW all six chambers fired. Guess ol Marse Robert didn't believe in load five. Most in the day did load six.

Conicals were more deadly than round balls,
but round balls were more accurate, that is
what i read, thats just incase you guys jump
all over me and say bull, they say that con/s
would tumble in flight.

You are right ofcorse, the Conical bullets were somewhere in the weight range of 180gr. - 205gr. & with using approximately 25gr. of FFFG powder would produce approximately 770fps - 800fps yielding 256ft. lbs. - 269ft. lbs. of energy a bit more than the average Ball load of the day "30gr. FFFG = 850fps. 228ft. lbs." so it had a advantage of more energy to the target but the accuracy was much to be desired due to the bullets being harder to load than ball making them at times canted in the bore & therefore misaligned through the bore & in flight.

I remember reading that many would preferr the Ball loads over the Conical loads due to it being easier to load & the Ball being a more reliable man stoper possibly due to it being more accurate.

Now the the OP's request, Dixie Gun works has 2 1858 copies that are Stainless & Satin finish.
Stainless 1858

Satin finished 1858

I'm sorry I misread your posting, Cabelas has them "the link is to their SS Pietta 1858 Buffalo revolver but their the same piece just longer barrel & they offer the spare cylinder on that page."

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...817&id=0009945

Unfortunatly I don't know any one that Has a SS Pietta 58' much less any one willing to give up any of their spare cylinders
