62gr fmjscbt question

bought some 62gr bullets that said were ss109.was wondering how to tell if they are the real thing . used a magnent and it stuck to it.so how can i tell from the real ones

You can look at the ammo here. Sounds like you have the real thing. The magnet is picking up on the steel penetrator (scroll down the linked page far enough to see M855, which is the U.S. designation SS109). Green tip. Dimensions are listed on the link also if you care to check.

Not sure why anybody would lie about where the bullets came from? There is a lot of surplus around to pull. Nothing illegal about owning rifle AP ammunition. Only pistol AP is banned, SFAIK.
