Mossberg Palomino 1951-72

Just ran across another neat old .22 rifle. I've always been a old Mossberg fan, but when I seen this old lever action, I couldn't pass it up. Bluing is nearly gone, small crack in the stock, and a missing buttplate, but that just adds to the character of these old inexpensive guns.
Seems to function fine although the spring in the tube magazine is a little weak. I can't seem to remove the spring from the tube. Does anyone know if there is a trick to it? It only pulls forward an inch or two from the tube, then stops solid.
