Likewise with ejected '06 brass from a Garand, never try to pick it up immediately after firing. Let someone else do that who thinks they are doing you a favor by collecting your cases (sometimes the last round that may eject rearward rather than into right field).

Ouch, the dreaded "M-1 thumb", you just know it will happen eventually, so why not do it now and get it over with??
