Questions regarding ammunition for my Stag Arms Model 4
I've only shot steel through my rifle for the longest time, but lately I've been trying to make it out to the range more often and would like to know what brand of brass ammunition may be good for practice to see where I stand accuracy wise.
So far my groups tend to be around 3-4" at 100yd (Not the greatest I know) with open sights shooting from the bench with a full length 20" 1/9 twist barrel using 55gr Wolf Performance ammunition. Privi Partisan and PMC are what I'm looking at on AIM surplus, and while I've heard mixed reviews on either brand, I was wonder what ya'll think of these particular rounds. I'm trying to stay reasonably affordable, but if I have to drop down a bit of extra cash to maximize my rifles performance to see how well I'm actually shooting, I don't mind. Ammo I know does play a role in how accurate you shoot, if not a small one, so any suggestions would be appreciated. |

I have shot a lot of PMC, and it's great for what it is. I haven't shot any pvri ammo, so i can't tell you about that.
If you are serious about accuracy or really want to see what both you and your rifle are capable of you need match ammo. Last edited by The Long Shot; September 22, 2012 at 04:22 PM. |

PPU and PMC are both very good ammo.

You can find Lake City M193 surplus for .30 a round, excellent performance, full power ammo. Second choice would be AE XM193.

I've bought quite a pile of 55 FMJ commercial reloads for $250/1000 delivered. It shoots as good as generic commercial factory loads.

+1 on the Prvi Match ammo recommendation. My 20" 1:9 AR shoots the Prvi 75gr ammo fine at 100 yards but groups open up for me at 300 yards. Prvi 69gr ammo may be a better match for your AR.
I have had great luck with Hornady Steel match 52gr ammo out of my AR's. It shoots almost as well as Black Hills 52gr match ammo but cost significantly less. |
