45acp load question

Hi All, Been looking at some load data for a 200gn RN Rainier bullet. My Lee manual shows 4.7gn Titegroup for 200gn jacketed bullet. And 4.8gn for 200gn lead bullet. Lyman shows 4.7gn for 200gn JHP and 4.8gn for #2 lead. These seem to me to be a little on the hot side. I was going to start more around 4.3 gn of Titegroup for the 200gn RN. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I would start on the low end of the powder charge. Load a few and see if your gun will cycle assuming it's a semi-auto.

Check to see how far it throws the brass when shooting. If it is more than 10' or so it's probably too hot.

Are you happy with the accuracy? No point in loading max. rounds if it's for practice or plinking. Max. rounds can be hard on the gun and the brass, not to mention leading the barrel if lead bullets are used.

Good Loading and Shooting, Eagle

Why do they seem a little hot to you? Have you loaded some and tested them? If I wanted a lower pressure I would try a different powder, and not guess if it would be safe to under load the manuals.

Hodgdon shows 4.7/4.8gr starting loads for 200gr bullets. I would not be inclined to question 3 official sources with nearly identical data.
