Renaming a link

Please post a brief on how to "rename" an external link. Or, I guess, a TFL link, as well. Likely the same procedure.

I've been schooled on this in the past, but it was down in Software and Function Testing where I was trying to figure it out myself and now it's gone.

As is my memory of it .

Thanks.

I assume you mean how do you create a named link since it isn't actually renamed. (It's called a hyperlink.)

The easy way here on TFL and many other forums is to press the little insert-link icon when you're in the post composing window. It looks like a chain link and world. Then you enter or paste your URL in the entry field (be sure not to double up the http prefix) and press OK. The hyper link is generated at the location of the cursor in the text window. Now the name part is initially the same as the URL so you need to replace it with the name you wish to use. It is usually already highlighted, so just start typing and it will automatically be replaced.

You can also type in the hyperlink easily enough. Use square brackets and type out the code like this:
Creating a hyperlink

That bit of code will yield:
Creating a hyperlink

Thank you. I will copy your reply to my Handy file.

I will try to post a link to a rifle like the one my grandmother used when I accompanied her on a rabbit hunting (stand) when I was about four years of age (It's in my safe). We were hunting supper:

My Grandmother's rifle

Excellent. And, as is common, easier done than taught/learned.
