Aluminum grips comfort?

I was thinking about getting some art grips for either my M9 &/or my 1911. I have seen lots of aluminum grips but was wondering if they are comfortable to shoot. Was thinking they might make recoil worse ... wondering if anybody else has experience with them.

Get them. If you like the way they look but aren't comfortable to shoot, switch them out for range work etc. I'm a grip maven so I would probably like the ones you are thinking of getting.

The ones on my P226 are very comfortable when shooting. Only complaint I remember hearing is they can be uncomfortable on bare hands in colder weather.

I had the same thought as SigArms228
Aluminum is the very worst thing to have in your hand in cold weather. So depending on where you are, it may or may not be a good idea.
I would not care much if the gun were worn in a concealed condition under clothing, but here where I live, I'd never want aluminum on a holster gun in the winter. Your profile says nothing about where you are, so this warning may be of no value to you.

"...uncomfortable on bare hands in colder weather..." "Uncomfortable" is being polite. You kind of have to experience real cold to appreciate just how cold any metal gets.
There is no recoil with a 1911/A1, but the grips don't change recoil.

I really like the way my P226 looks with the aluminum grips though and for me cold weather is not an issue. I got mine when SIG closed them out for $65.

Yup, aluminum grips suck the heat right out of your hands in the cold.
That's a pretty Sig, but mine got Hogue rubber for warmth.

In Florida so no winter issues here. Just hurricanes.

Both G10 and aluminum grips are usually thinner than stock plastic or wood grips. If your hand size is not large, the thinness can aid in both trigger reach and recoil management. Feelings are subjective, but aluminum can be cold to the touch, and also can be nicked easily. Of the two, I prefer G10.

Two of my favorite pistols have aluminum grips on them. If it's cold out, they eventually warm up after I shoot for a good long time.
I find the more comfortable grip worth the trade off.

Although, I have multiple sets of grips for my most favorite pistols, so I can swap them out as the mood strikes me. Variety.

I looked at them and went with Hogue G10's for my Sigs. Glad I made my choice.

The aluminum grip chill is only an issue if you open carry in cold weather.
If you carry concealed, they will be no colder, or warmer then the rest of your pistol which will be warmed by your body heat.
I had a pair of slim grips on my 1911, and loved them. No issues with the cold.

There is nothing much "artsy" about machined aluminum grips.
They look just like checkered rubber grips.
