CLAYCO AK?

Anyone ever hear about a Clayco branded AK?

The only information I've found indicates that they are pre-Norinco Chinese imports. Circa early 1980s (earlier?).

If anyone has one or has had one, could you tell me what markings should be where to ensure this is authentic?

TIA.

Clayco was one of the many importers of Chinese AK47's prior to the '89 ban. Some of the very earliest Clayco's were imported with the notorious "third pin" hole and were recalled by the ATF and destroyed. Occasionally one of the third pin hole guns will turn up for sale, but since they are considered to be a machine gun, they are illegal to own.

The legal ones without the third pin hole are basically the same as other preban Chinese imports. AFAIK, they shipped with a detachable bayonet, magazines, sling and oil bottle in the original box and, like all preban AK's, they are worth between $1200 for very worn examples to $2000++ for nice NIB examples with all the goodies.

Go to Google search and type in "Clayco AK47" and you will get more info.

I had one for awhile. Top cover should have a long disclaimer abut being illegal to modify. They were imported with a black fiberglass stock, but not sure of all were. Mine had a regular wood stok but I suspected it was replaced. Usually worth a good penny. IMO, they worth more than norinco, but probably less than polytech to the average gun guy since I believe not many aware of the claycos

The one I was looking at was a factory underfolder.

Thanks for the information, it helps out.
