Citadel 1911 compact issue
First post here, hoping to become a regular.
I just bought a citadel 1911 about a week ago. I cleaned and oiled it last night, and realized that with a magazine not in the well, when I returned the slide to battery via slide release, the hammer would fall about half the time. A little more fussing revealed the same 50/50 ratio when I was pulling the slide back without the use of the slide release to RTB. I put a few snap caps into the magazine and was not able to reproduce this problem. Is this a known issue with the Citadel 1911 compacts? Is it dangerous to load a round into the chamber? Thanks in advance for the help guys. |

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry about your new gun. A falling hammer is not a good thing, and if it does this with a round in the chamber, there will likely be a discharge. Also not a good thing. There's a couple of reasons it could be doing this. Either call the manufacturer or show it to someone local, who is familiar with 1911s, pronto.

I'm not sure if it's a faulty decocking lever, made to return the hammer to the forward position for safe empty chamber carrying or if it is a fault with the firearm itself.

I'm not familiar with the Citadel, but if it's a 1911 design, there's no decocker, just a up and down safety.
Up is safe and down is safety off. The safety isn't supposed to affect the hammer. If it's a 1911.

Ya that's what I was assuming. I'll bring it to my gunsmith and see if he can diagnose it. I'll follow up here.
