I have a question about my Henry 44 Big Boy.

I'm just curious why the specs say the rifling has 6 lands and grooves. Unless im looking at it wrong mine has 12. I bought it used, we're the Big Boy series originally 12 and changed to 6?

It is alleged, by Cabela's, that Henry 20" Micro-groove barrels have 12 grooves. Not seeing any actual documented proof though.

I would like to see a picture of the muzzle, even if you don't want me to count them for you

I have been contemplating a Henry in 44 mag. And I'm curious about the rumors.

Apparently, Henry used Marlin's Microgroove rifling on some of their 20" stuff. Only place I saw that was in Cabela's blurb on Google. Wasn't on the actual site or on Henry's. Mind you, most manufacturers don't publish that info.
Slugging the barrel would tell you right away.

I'm pretty sure that it's 12 grooves, and I'm getting the impression that 6 is the norm. My next question is, is it the same 1/38 twist?

50 yards is the most I've tried so far. I still need a lot more trigger time to get an honest answer. It's the first 44 magnum I've every shot and it makes me not want to try a revolver in 44 mag. I have shot a groundhog with it at about 20 yards. It took a lot of the skin off and died instantly.

I've read an email posted online from from Henry. Some of the early Henry rifles used different rifling; all Henry's today use the 6 groove button method. I think Marlin was making their early barrels.

Marlin micro groove rifling apparently doesn’t like very high velocities, accuracy is better when backing off a little from max from several sources. I’m working with my dad to figure that out in his 30-30 reloads but slow progress with the weather.
