The “Gunny” is gone at 74

R Lee Ermey who played the DI in Full Metal Jacket has passed away at age 74.

His contribution to the shooting sports can not be understated.

RIP Devil Dog

R. I. P. Gunny. You were a great American!
Violence is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and valorous feeling which believes that nothing is worth violence is much worse. Those who have nothing for which they are willing to fight; nothing they care about more than their own personal safety; are miserable creatures who have no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of those better than themselves. Gary L. Griffiths, Chief Instructor, Advanced Force Tactics, Inc. (Paraphrasing John Stuart Mill)

I was 11 when I watched him on Mail Call, it was one of my favorite shows back then. Years ago R. Lee came back for another short History Channel series called Lock n' Load, which was less theatrical and more genuine. I loved both shows, R. Lee was great. He's one of the best pro-gun celebrities we had in the gun community, his affinity for Glocks and .45 ACP aside.

He will be sorely missed.

Great actor - even when playing parts outside of the military roles.
