K98 sight

Well I boogered it good.Santa gave me a tall front sight blade so I can shoot my usual +/-100 yard without a 6oclock hold. Was tapping old blade out and the whole sight band rotated. Set screw is broken. At least the broken piece fell out the barrel when I pulled the band off. Any idea what cost would be for repair?

Call your local gunsmith and ask for a quote, anyone else can only speculate. He will need to drill out the broke screw, hopefully re-tap the original threads to keep it to correct specs. Might have to use a different thread pitch to accommodate a modern screw, your gonna pay for his knowledge and skill to make it right. I had to replace the same type sight on a Yugo Mauser years ago after removing the worn muzzle, cut it back 1.5 inches. I sweat soldered the "sight band" onto the barrel, rifle shot fine for me.

A new K98 front sight set screw runs $2.85 from Gunparts. $14.85 for a whole front sight(everything but the blade). It might matter which K98 it is though.
