IF you can. Is there a Gander Mountain or Cabella's type store near you? They have primers and powders at fair prices, and you eliminate shipping that has to asses the HazMat fee of 20 bucks. For that you can afford to drive a bit to buy them.
Best to buy an extra 1000 always, as sometimes you will find the shelf bare of what you want. Regards, SN |

Yes. it's the War! Federal and others are knee deep in Govt contracts. The US Military may not use your type of primer, but companies like Federal are running 24/7 to keep up with demand and they may not have time to manufacture your particular type of primer. Most of their resources are going to fill Govt orders. Nobody is holding back anything, they just can't manufacture them fast enough to fill their Military orders, their own ammo orders and our need for components. If you are looking for Federal 210M, you can find a few here. http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?dir=278|284|317 http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.co...ku=00129GM210M |

Primers "ON SALE!"
Natchez Supply, in Tennessee has CCI primers on sale.
The HazMat charge is $20; but you can combine powders, and such. Here's their link. http://www.natchezss.com/category.cf...TOKEN=32958404 Good, safe shooting-reloading, GRB |

And yes, people are hoarding. Local gun shows have lots of components, but people are buying ammo and component by the boatload. Last couple shows I watched several instances where the dealer said, "Yeah, I have caliber XXX..how many do you want?" And the buyer says "All of them".
One was 45 LC Cowboy loads, about $600 worth if my math was correct. Another was 308 brass. I just started reloading last year and admit that I seldom leave without 1000 primers or 500 cast lead bullets...and I have to be there early to get 200 gr SWC 45 acp lead. |

If you want primers and can afford to lay in a supply then it is best to look at Powder Valley or Grafs for primers. The Haz Mat spread out over a 25 K order is very easy manage if you have some friends to go in on a purchase. |

I was at Gander yesterday, and their prices are anything but fair! Like $4 a 100 for any primers at all, and I can order them for $25 or less a thou from any number of sources. Yes, I have to pay hazmat ripoff, but if I only need a couple hundred, I prefer to go to the little bitty gunshop near here and give then the business. Gander routinely has prices 25 to 100% over retail, and I simply am not in the position to overpay for anything gun related no matter how badly I need that item. Example: 200 Hornady 44 caliber 240 grain SWCHP swagwd lead bullets are $23.10 from around 4 different mailorders suppliers, and GM wants $27.99 for the same box of bullets. If retail is $23.10, why is GM 25% higher? Same thing with the Sierra ProHunter bullets I use for my '06; retail varies from $19.95 to $24.00 per box, and Gander wants $30.00! Same bullet, same package, same same, but 30% OVER retail is not what I call reasonable by any means. Oh, and all you Wally World shoppers will like to know, the same box of 500 WW 22 LR cartridges that WM sells for $12.50 are $22.95 at GM!

Powder Valley's still got all the Wolf primers you want, @ $90, for 5k. That's all I'm using now. Have had no problems with them.

I get primers at my local shop. He always has what I need (CCI large pistol and small rifle, and Wolf small rifle magnum). And his prices are good. AND I don't have to pay hazmat shipping. I'm all set.

Sly As A Fox
Local little shop, when I run up to grab a brick of primers (WSP), there always seems to be only one box on his shelf. AND, it always has a layer of dust on it. So, he wins I grab it and run up to pay, like I just got the last one in our County. Then..... as I walk out he strolls in the back and brings out just one more dusty brick of primers.
SN PS: One year ago it was $22.00, now $28.95 a 1000. But, no charge for the Dust! |

Definitely ANYONE but Gander - their prices are ridiculous - only worse that I have found was Bass Pro
You might also look at Graf and son's, Gamaliel, Able Ammo as well |

Just a quick question. Do you guys not have local gun shops that will give you a deal on a large quantity? It seems crazy to pay the Hazmat fee if you don't have to.

Primers
Down here in sunny warm FLA Winchesters are $28 per 1,000 and my supplier told me Federals are nearly impossible to get. Hazmat fees are on the rise so if you can get as much as you can afford. It won't go bad and we all know the prices will continue to climb upward. In the past year powder has gone up $10 per 8# keg and primers are up $2 per 1,000. Still way cheaper than factory ammo. Just finished loading up 2550 rounds of 45acp's to the tune of $306 in material cost. Not bad considering a case of factory 45acp is $289+tax. By these prices I got 1550 round for free.
