Glock 27: any fans or non fans?

Currently have a Glock 22 that I like very much. Local shop has a used 27 in very good condition. Looked it over and liked it but I've never shot one before. Local range has a 26 which I have shot, but they don't have a 27 to try.

Anyone really like the 27 or really not like the 27?

Good thing about .40 cal glocks, is it doesn’t take much money to convert them to 9mm.

If you're going to convert why bother buying the 40 to convert to 9

I know you were responding to Dan-O, but I already have a G19 and G43 in addition to the G22. I'm not planning to convert barrels to shoot 9mm. I already have two.

I'm only asking about the G27.

I carried one for several years. Good gun and very accurate. I had no problems with the recoil. Some are more sensitive to recoil than others, I have my limits as well.

I actually like .40 and have actually come back to it as most folks have begun to turn away from it.

That being said I have never liked Glocks in .40. They, at least until recently, were basically 9mms scaled up and that never worked well, at least compared to a SIG P229/239, HK USP/P2000 that were designed as .40s and scaled down.

The Glock 27 is a snappy lil’ sumbitch and I cannot say I would choose it over a Glock 26. A Glock 27 vs say a P2000sk ..... night and day difference in recoil/snap in my limited experience.

In 9mm even if you hate Glocks you.......kinda have to love em or begrudgingly respect them as they are pretty much the “Bar”. In .40......I’d go elsewhere.

Generally good, I have owned a 26 and rented and shot a 27 numerous times. Seems as reliable as any Glock.

Recoil is a bit snappy, Glocks in general have more felt recoil than other brands in the same caliber, I think only the largest ones (22, 21 and oddly, the 20) are really comfortable to shoot in the heavier calibers.

I have found Springfield Compact and Subcompact XDs, Smith M & P Compact, and Beretta Px4 Compact to be noticeably more comfortable to shoot in .40 than the 27.

I don’t see any advantage for the 27 over the 26 for personal defense. It might be a thought as a hiking sidearm, the .40 might be more effective against a mountain lion—if you see it coming.....

You might not mind the recoil. I know several shooters who don’t. My recommendation would be to shoot one before buying. Although, as noted above, you can always convert it to 9mm.

I carried the 27 daily for almost a decade before switching to a Gen 4 26. The 27 was perfectly reliable and would shoot anything I fed it. While I personally prefer the 26, the 27 is a great gun for anyone interested in .40 caliber. 40's are snappy in general, but the wide grip and decent weight made the 27 feel less snappy than other 40's IMO.

And you can convert it to shoot .357 Sig with nothing more than a drop in barrel.
Even the .40 magazines work.

I regret selling my G27.

Is the G27 snappier than a G29?

I have a G27. I was anti Glock but decided to get the G27 (I am a 40 bigot). I really like it and I carry it often. I also have 9mm and Sig 357 barrels and mags for it.

Couple of thousand rounds of all three calibers and not a failure.

I am a big fan of 40 so that makes a difference I guess.

The gun is a pleasure to shoot and is very accurate to approx. 15 yards.....more accurate than me. I do not consider it snappy, but some folks seem to have different attitudes on the 40 S&W.

I have carried in a pocket, but it is a tad too big for that except in a couple of pants. I mostly carry it owb and it resides in one of my vehicles.

I am at about the limit of my gun buying so I doubt that I will ever get another Glock or any other weapon…...unless...….

There is more recoil than 9mm, but it's not terrible. In fact, I wouldn't call the G27 hard recoiling, more like it's really bouncy.

Rate of fire is gonna go down as you can't shoot accurately as fast as with 9mm, but the point of a handgun isn't to machine gun your target, it's to have something on you that is easy to carry and will work with as few shots as possible.

I like the .40 more because it penetrates barriers better than 9mm.

I have a G33, which is the .357sig version. Recoil between the 2 is virtually identical

Nothing “wrong” with it... but if I had to make the choice again, I would have bought a S&W M&P Compact.

You guys that shoot g26 and g27 carry guns should really check your split times. I would guess if you are a 0.4s shooter with the g22, you are closer to 0.8s on the g27.

With something like the g43 and an extended mag, you might recover much of that. With a 380, you might be under 0.4s...

I sold my small ccw 40 to get a ccw 9 that my fingers all fit on. It could be just me...my point is try it with a timer.

The Creeper got my G27

Gone G27: My carry gun was a G27. That is one heck of a handgun. Never a moment of trouble. That handgun got stolen. Somewhat at a loss for an everyday gun the search started. Found an excellent used G23 Gen4. That done it for the G27. The larger pistol works better for me.

All I will add is this: I used to work part time at a high traffic local gun shop. We sold 10 Glock 26's for every Glock 27 we sold. And for every 10 Glock 27's we sold we sold 5-6 .40-9mm conversion barrels later on. If someone wanted to trade in a Glock 27 we would offer $100 less than we would for a used Glock 26 because we had a very hard time selling a used G27. Draw your own conclusions.

I had a 27, didn't like it for the snappy reasons. Went with a 26.

I agree that an empirical test would solve the decision conundrum. The round didn't offer me anything special, given modern ammo.

Bought a 27 years ago and love it! My first .40 cal and it shoots well.
Wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Has better drop down knock factor but one less bullet in the clip and more muzzle snap.

I have a G27, no issues. It was my "running gun" (carried during my daily exercise). I expected it to be "snappy", but I think it is the "biggest bang for the buck" in that size of a package.

That's what I wanted. If you're OK with .40 in general, it's a good choice.

I’ve shot the gen4 G27, really liked it. More partial to the 9mm because I have a 19, 43 and a couple 26’s. I own zero 40 cal guns, doubtful I will pick one up anytime soon but a good shooter none the less.

G27 flip and bang

G27: I enjoy the subcompacts. Now if I want to dance it's necessary to put money in the jukebox. I shot and shoot some pretty fierce 180gr. handloads in my forties. You can learn how to handle the gun fairly quickly. For me, it's mandatory to have some range time with these subcompacts. I really dropped the ball selling my G29. I do not buy into this flip business. YMMV.

Addendum: My fingers are long and the G4 23-a bargain-with big back strap worked well. Have not found a good used 27 or 29. My used 27 still had copper lube inside. Some local gurus stated the 27 was too big to carry. I was wearing mine at the time unnoticed.

All this 9mm business is going to bounce one day. A costly bounce.
