Thanks Jim. I've got the model 10 fever and have bought another one, serial D2304XX. Would this be late '60's?

S&w .38 125xxx
It does say Smith and Wesson .38 special and has a swing out cylinder. The S/N is on the butt frame.

1905 M&P
It is a 6-shot. Unfortunately, the right side grip is not original. The left side is black (looks like bakelite), checkered with the S&W logo. The right side is plain wood, probably fashioned by my grandfather. He also crudely engraved his SSN on the left side frame (obviously before identity theft had been thought of). Thanks so much for the info.

17-6
Hello,
first post. ![]() Nice forum You got here! But now the main thing. There's going to be a Finnish policedepartments gun auction in about 2weeks. I have the list of the auction items. Two S&W 17-6 revolvers are included. The only information on the list are the serial numbers, no pics or anything else. So I hope someone could help me. I know what a 17 looks like and would only be interested in the "full lug" version. I would be very grateful for any information of these guns. The serials are: BEF90XX and BDZ57XX Thanks Finland |

Thanks for a quick responce!
Do You have any idea what SN's would be for the ones without the full lug barrel? So, it seems that I have to go to the auction and maybe get my first revolver ![]() |

The -6 version was the change to the full lug barrel (-5 and below were standard barrels). But, there are always those few exceptions that slip by. Jim |

Looking for info on two Mod 10's - I think
Trying to find age of a couple S&W 38 revolvers that belong to a friend. He has one, that he bought new, he believes in 1957, the box refers to it as a Mod 10-5, SN/ D349XXX, 4" bbl.
The other one he bought today, from an individual; looks identical to the one above except it has synthetic grips (similar to the "New Governor" gun currently on the S&W website, homepage). It's serial number is 8D50XXX and also has a 4" bbl. Your help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by topman; January 24, 2011 at 09:02 AM. Reason: error |

D349xxx is @ 1972.
8D50xxx is 1981. A call to S&W will get you the date it shipped from the factory. Last edited by BADSBSNF81; January 24, 2011 at 07:48 PM. |

Need some information along the lines of barrel length, number of rounds the cylinder holds, fixed or adjustable sights, finish, grip material, etc..

S&W search, please
Father recently showed me a snub nose 38 S&W. Told me has had it for about twenty five to thirty years, maybe more. Anyway, open the cylinder and it has 4140 stamped there, with maybe an 8 under the 4140, hard to tell. Then the bottom of the grip is #182xxx. Gun is blued and in pretty good shape. Dad just wants to know what he has and what is it worth, all help is appreciated.

Thanks
Flyfish,
Thanks for the info on the model 19. I'm delighted that it's in as fine a shape for an older handgun. As of this posting I've had several inquiries and the general consensus it would sell easily for 600.00+, mostly due to its condition I think. Russ |

Value depends on condition and can range from around $250 very well used to $500 in minty condition. Jim |
