Sighting-In Problems

I recently took a scope off of one rifle and transferred it to another rifle. Upon attempting to sight in the new scope/rifle combo, I have encountered a problem with achieveing any sort of a zero. After boresighting the rifle and firing the first round, I made the neccesary adjustments to get a good "ballpark" beginning. After several more shots and adjustments failed to bring me anywhere close to my zero I became frustrated and decided to turn to people who know a little bit more about these kinds of problems. I have made sure that all my rings and mounts are tight. The scope worked perfectly on my old rifle as well. The new rifle that it has been mounted on is a Ruger MkII chambered in .308 Win. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The best way to start is to put a white paper target out at about 20 yards with a black dot on it. From a good rest take a shot at the dot. Next, while holding the gun steady while it is aimed at the dot, adjust your scope so the crosshairs
move into the hole you just shot. Next you adjust your scope so the crosshairs are about an inch to an inch and a half below the the hole you shot. That will get on paper at 100 yards for fine tuning.

Dear Shooter:
Make sure the "guard screws" are tight!
Make sure the bbl is not touching the forestock (if it is float it)!
What kind of mounts are you using?
What kind of ammo are you using; someone elses reloads, or factory.
Other than these things, yea, get up close and get it on and then move out to 50 or 100 yds and shoot; there is no reason, if your rifle is O.K. that it won't shoot!

would definately check guard screws first, but would bet on the barrel touching, ie, not floated.

Just some steps to take
Can you obtain a group?
Then
Does the bore sight remain after the shots?
If not check the mounts or maybe the scope is bad.
The rugar mark II are intergral mounts one is higher than the other. Are they the correct mounts? If not it will tweak the scope to the point of damage when it is tightened.
