10 + 1 Micro Sig P365

What do you think of the just announced Sig P365? Holds 10+1 of 9mm with the standard mag but you can get a 12 round mag. Also rated for +P. It is small and supposedly has a decent trigger.

I've got a Sig P290 that's quite small, but its weight precludes pocket carry. It's a good 12 yds or less, defensive pistol, but is no easier to conceal, in reality, than my P229. Both have Sig's excellent night (read Tritium) sights...a must have for CC or night stand use, IMHO. And, BTW, I'm an OWB holster guy.

Just checked Sig's site: The 365 is an oz. heavier than my P290, with a bbl. that's 1/4" longer, it's roughly a 1/4" thicker and a 1/2" taller. For these add'l dimensions, it'll give you 4 add'l rounds (10 vs. 6), and a striker type trigger. I assume that means it'll have a shorter trigger pull and reset vs. the P290's which closely resembles a S&W J-frame revolver...ie. mucho long!

Overall, it's got a longer grip and that's the hardest dimension to hide for CC use...but you do get the trigger difference and capacity. For now, I'll pass.

Best Regards, Rod

Pre-orders are going on now. It’s smaller than a Glock 43. It will sell like there is no tomorrow.

rodfac, I here you on the P290, a I had been thinking of picking up a P290 RS for carry in Southern California's climate. It looks like the P365 is in and the 290/290 RS is out, but they are still available on the market.

As for the width, you say it is 1/4" thicker. My info is that the P290 RS is 0.04" thicker than the P365 (for all intents and purposes they are the same width), but I would like to see the two up against the other. I have also seen some gripes about how the P250RS is field stripped.

Thinking about things, now I see why I believe Sig is calling the 365 a micro compact. It is just a little larger than some micros like the 250 or the 938.

I agree with you that it is a good micro if you don't want to deal with a cocked and locked 938. As for the P229, that is what I currently carry in 9 mm and it is a nail driver with a short reset trigger and the short research trigger. The one thing I really wish my P229 didn't have is the large beavertail and I could care less for the rail. (It's an Enhanced Elite model.)

I fact, I shoot the P229 in DA very well which is one reason I have been considering the 290RS. Anyway, I am with you and am thinking that I don't want to be a beta tester.

Jmag1, It clearly is targeting the G43 and the Shield given the additional rounds, its trigger, size, and night sights.

This thing is going to sale like crazy one people start putting it in their hand. Finally a thin and light 9mm that's going to challenge my Shield for top job. This puppy with a nice leather OWB holster should hide perfectly easy under a Tee.

But it'll have to prove itself at 25 yards to beat out the Shield. I've gotten great at the plates at that distance. So it's gonna have to be accurate...like my 220.

While I'm not sure than any new striker fired pistol can be properly called "revolutionary", I can see this pistol becoming quite popular for CC. Whether or not it sells like the shield will probably depend somewhat on its price point though.

I kind of want one. But my Glock 26 fills this niche.

I got a Shield 9mm on Monday, and found out about the P365 on Friday. Dammit!

Actually, it's probably good timing. Since I just bought the Shield, that should give me the willpower to take a year, at least, and see how the P365 shakes out. It also allows for time to find one as a rental at a local FFL and shoot it. And then, if the P365 is to sub-compacts as my P229 is to carry size firearms, hopefully the initial buying frenzy will have passed and the price will coming down as supply starts to exceed demand.

I am very excited about this new SIG. I've been waiting for this one!!! I'm a little confused about some of the numbers I am seeing above. I carry my little Kahr CM9 more than any other handgun I own, but I would prefer more capacity. I've tried but nothing has knocked it off of that "most used" pedestal.

The Kahr CM9's dimensions: L 5.42" H 4" W .9" 15.9oz

The SIG P290's dimensions: L 5.5" H 4" W .9" 20.5oz

The new SIG P365's dimensions: L 5.8" H 4.3" W 1" 17.8oz

That's pretty darn close with a 10 round flush magazine.

When I am able, for higher capacity I carry a Springfield XD mod 2 3" and it is phenomenal, but it is still quite porky compared to the little Kahr. Same for the G26. As for a P229, that is just a much bigger handgun all around. I have a West German P245 that is roughly the same size as a P229, and I carry it on occasions quite comfortably, but it is nowhere near the small size and weight of the aforementioned.

The P365 was apparently built around the magazine they designed. I think it looks incredible and I definitely am looking into it. But as others have said, I will probably wait for the furor to die down just a bit, and also research as many reviews and opinions as I can. REALLY hoping the local range picks one up to rent. Hoping that trigger is good!
