Ball puller for 1858 Rem. 44 cal. revolver

What size would you suggest for the best fit. I see on the internet there are 3 sizes. 36/44,45/50,and45/54. My revolver takes a 454 size ball. I have yet to see one made specifically for a Rem 44 cal. revolver. Ken

I don't see why anyone would consider using a screw type ball puller on a revolver.
For balls in the cyllinder a short length of brass rod through the nipple hole works fine. For balls in the barrel a length of hardwood dowel or a brass or nylon rod will bump it out easily.
A screw type puller takes quite a bit of effort and in the barrel generally two people to use. The screw going in expands the ball and makes it an even tighter fit and harder to remove.

But....Brass does not stand up well to twisting force. Consequently you risk breaking the screw off in the ball. This is probably a rarety and there will likely be several people who report having done it numerous times using a brass screw without a problem. But why chance it?

If you can't clear it through the muzzle, drive it out with a soft rod.

I've used screws for pullers a few times over the years. It's quick and easy. Keep the screw centered in the ball and is no danger to chamber walls.

No real effort in a chamber. Ball comes out pretty easy. I wouldn't use a puller in a barrel either.
