double barrel rabbit ear bluegrass 12ga
my buddy has a double barrel, rabbit ear "blue grass" 12ga, we're having trouble finding info on it..wanted to see if anyone knew anything about it. thanks

I've got two pretty comprehensive "trade Gun" lists . Neither lists Bluegrass.
From the mid 1800s to the present there were hundreds of 'hardware store' brands. You would order a set number from a manufacture and he would stamp anything on the gun you wanted. Some manufactures hade their name hidden or in a code somewhere on the gun. Others didn't want to be associated with what they made because of the quality. Usually these guns are not well made and some down right dangerous. Best guess is that it would be safe hanging on a wall. |

Harley Nolden's masterwork lists the Blue Grass as either Crescent or HD Folsom made for Belknap Hardware of Louisville KY.
Not a shooter, IMO. Hang it over the mantel and admire it.... |

The Standard Catalog of Firearms lists the "Bluegrass name as a trade name used by the Belknap Hardware Company of Louisville, Kentucky, on shotguns they retailed. 2007 edition

Would anyone care to take a whack at Vernon Arms Co., . . . it's the same deal, . . . double barreled, rabbit eared, 12 ga.
It has I assume a gun assembly number on it, as all the pieces are marked "40". It is a shooter, but I use low brass in it, . . . take it out every so often just for old times sake, . . . got about 4 times it's weight in sentimet built into it. I'd be like the OP, would appreciate any info anyone has on it. May God bless, Dwight

Thanks, Tx, . . . but there ain't no "Mt" on it. Both hammer plates have the same script type engraving: "Vernon Arms Co."
I pulled it out of the back of the safe just to be sure, . . . It also has little stubby rabbit ears. Not like most you see where they stick up real prominently, . . . these need a good thumb to get em, . . . as they are short and stocky. But they work. The old gun is solid, not rattley, . . . and like I said earlier, a shooter. May God bless, Dwight
