Are .22 pistols fun to shoot?

All pistols, sans the 500 magnum, are fun to shoot. I may get some flack for that comment. 22’s are fun little guns. My daughter wants to learn to shoot... she will start with a 22 revolver and work up.

I shoot my 22 handguns more than anything else and I have been shooting handguns for over 30 years now. Accurate , cheap to shoot and no reloading. I still enjoy my centerfire handguns too.

Guess which caliber is the moist popular?

Let's see....

No recoil.
Hitting target dead-center each and every time you pull the trigger.
Cheap ammo.
Easy to teach/learn with.
Great for small game and beer cans.

I sold all my centerfire guns and now only shoot .22s. I'm having so much fun it's ridiculous. I shoot Steel Challenge matches with my S&W 617 and my Ruger Mark III and IV.

I no longer have to spend time in my garage in the cold or in the extreme heat of Arizona. I just order bricks of 22s from a variety of sources when there is no mailing charge.

I shoot about 300 - 400 rounds per practice session and I don't have to worry about reloading it all for the next session.

I taught my son to shoot with a .22 and now my granddaughter.

You bet it is. My range bag usually always has my Single Six in there. I say usually, because the .22 ammo shortage awhile back caused me to use my reloadable .22 (.32 H&R Mag) more extensively. Being cheap ammo, you don't feel bad using it to practice hip shooting, throw targets in the air, and other ways to waste ammo

. Plus you can get plenty of serious target practice without breaking the bank. Nice soft shooting, so flinching isn't usually a problem. All around family fun. Shot a lot of varmints with this caliber too, so useful in that way.

KLCane, can you recognize 'tongue in check' response?

It's a silly question cause, we all 'know' shooting .22 is fun. Has been fun for me since I was knee high to a grass-hopper.... And I am in my 50s now.

I've vote for it being one of the least silly questions of the day, and from a relatively new member.
.22 is probably the very best handgun to start new / young shooters with and introduce safety, fun and discipline. Lots of upsides listed above, and very few downsides to the caliber. (like taking down a moose, elk or steel target at 1,000 yards)
And in alot of places (where legal of course) you can setup an indoor range to practice.

So YES KLCane, .22's are a lot of fun to shoot (right up there with a .50BMG

Oh, dear, another O'heirism. Scores at actual scored targets are higher in .22 than in Centerfire (.32 or larger) or Bigbore (.45 only.) The 2017 National Match .45 winner shot nearly as well as the .22 winner (same score, fewer Xs), amazing.

Heap plenty fun, and on the cheap. Most people want a more effective self defense cartridge for a first handgun, but after that I think a .22 is a fine choice for a second pistol.

For pure fun I utilize 2 platforms. 22lr for cost and ease of use and shotgun for cost and destructive capabilities.
When I think of plinking, 22lr is the 1st thing that comes to mind.

But, yeah. I own many dozens of handguns. My K22 Masterpiece and Browning Buck Mark are the only two that go to the range every time. The others have to rotate between the other four spots. (I only bring six at a time.)

Single six is always in my gun case. Looking at adding a semiauto pistol to the herd soon.
Funny tho, it seems I'm having more fun nowadays shooting 22 rifles than pistols and may have to put the semiauto 22 on hold in lieu of a 22lr Savage bolt action.
