Im going to buy a BP 1858 new army 44 from Cabela's I would prefer stainless steel , but wondering if its worth the difference in price. Blue $220 SS $330. Thanks for any thoughts.

If you want stainless, get stainless. Stainless is a little more forgiving about cleaning than it's blued brother.

stainless will withstand corrosion, nicks, scratches, moisture better, and also is a stronger gun
what's it worth ? whatever someone is willing to pay at the time. Currently Ruger no longer makes that gun new- if they release it again, it will devalue your gun- if you're gonna sell, now's the time it's all supply-demand |

The stainless steels used in firearms tend to be softer, at least on the surface, than most carbon steels. Stainless steel scratches ultra easily, in my experience.
Note: The crappy Italian cap & ball blued steel might violate this rule. |

He's talking about buying a new ss NMA not a ROA he's not selling anything Captain. You could be more helpful if you slow down a bit and read the post
Stainless does show scratches worse than blue steel, but on the up side a bit of rubbing with some scotch-brite and they are almost good as new.Cant do that with a blued gun.Iffin you like the look of the SS go for it it's your money and your gun. |
