NoooooBeeee Question

Have been a lurker for a while. Reloading .45ACP and 9mm and have started working up knowledge to reload .308 and 270 Win. Now the dumb question: Looking at load data there is a BC number (I got that one) and a SD number. What they hey is "SD" and what does it mean?

Thanks ahead of time.

Sectional Density, a higher sectional density for a give caliber usually the better.

However their is someone on here that's going to explain a heck of a lot better then I can.

Wikipedia has a decent description http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectional_density. Sectional density will be the same for any caliber / bullet weight. It helps determine penetrating capability of a bullet. But it does not reflect the construction of the bullet. So it is not the end all, be all of penetration.

In general higher sectional density will have two benefits, 1) it will buck air resistance better, 2) it will have better penetration.
