Hornady .223 75gr. A-Max Question
Has anyone loaded this bullet for their AR?
I am interested in the results. Specifically in a short barrel (11.5" w/5.5" Flash Supressor). Powder?

With that short barrel, you had better have a 1-7 twist. Otherwise you won't stabilize that long bullet.

Just like the last poster said.
Its really kinda pointless to have that type of bullet in that short of a barrel. The 11.5" barrels are PERFECT for blasting 55 grn FMJs all day.

I've loaded them for my heavy barrel, 8 twist AR. They are very long bullets, especially with the plastic tip. If you load them to fit a magazine, you hardly have any room left for powder. I load them very long for single shot use. Even then, they have not proven to be as accurate in my rifle as Berger 73's and Nosler 77's at magazine length, or Sierra 80's loaded for single shot. For a short barrel, I would use something else.

My barrel is an 8" twist. Am looking for something a little heavier and more accurate than the 62 gr SS-109.
