The 10mm may pen 10" deeper then the 45acp but the 45acp is making a much bigger hole ..
.051 of an inch bigger!

Speed kills. A Chevy moving at 1/2 mile an hour may knock you down but it won't kill.

The 10mm with 180-200g bullets would be a great choice for a woods gun if heavier revolvers are not a option.

A Chevy falling on you might not matter how far it travel's. That's why I never wear Okley's when I work on Chevy's.

If speed kills then I guess the 7.62x25 Tokarev and 357 Magnum are better than a 45acp or 10mm.

As to energy the 7.62x25 Tokarev does not beat out a 45 APC but it is pretty close. The .357 Mag is about a tie with the 10mm although the 10mm has some loads with more energy than you would typically see out of the .357.

That said both of the calibers you mentioned shoot lighter bullets and the carried energy will disperse quicker.

But, as both of those are not available in modern poly auto pistols...........

The 10mm and the 45 ACP both shoot bullets in the 200+ grain range.

.45 ACP 185 gr 1,225 ft/s 616 ft·lbf
.357 Mag 125 gr 1,600 ft/s 710 ft·lbf
10mm 135 gr 1,600 ft/s 767 ft·lbf
7.62x25 Tokarev 85 gr 1,720 ft/s 560 ft·lbf

I have hunted Lion here in Arizona Most of my life. I have Varmint called them in real close as well.
I had one come up behind me and was sniffing me out. My wife has a picture some where, she was about 100 yard away taking pictures of what I called in be I dispatched it.
I find bear the biggest threat, Lion will freak and run lightning fast once they know who and what you are.
In California I think they have learned not to fear humans, so they will attack somewhat.
I have a .45 1911 type and a Glock 10MM.
I like the .45 for in home defense and as a cop and I cant wear hearing protection.
Like the 10 MM outdoors just because its fun to shoot.
Ive seen big lion killed by Expert trackers with a .22 LR after getting it up a tree, with dogs!

I think that 10mm and 41 Magnum fans should start their own secret society.
From your name, 9mmhpfan, I don't expect you will be applying for membership

Anyway, I am working on the secret handshake as we speak. For some reason I keep ending up with the society looking like Red Green's Possum Lodge.

Which stick? What ice?

Actually, the 10mm Magnum looks pretty serious... not on par with the .45 Super, but dang close. I doubt anything hit with either of those could tell the difference.
