Old guys robbed while gator hunting
The first picture is kind of deceiving in that not seconds after it was taken the gator Skip is holding recovered from my ill placed banstick effort and jerked lose from his grasp.......and then after pulling the boat around some more managed to wrap himself up in the harpoon lines such that we had a time getting him untangled.
The second picture shows where the robbery took place. Look at the tail......a good 2 feet missing! Darn thing should have measured over 12 and been 500 pounds! Still he was well over 400.....heck the legs alone weighed 45 pounds after they were skinned! And this was with the feet cut off......and yes, we sell the legs that way at the market, bone in. |

In spite of it all, an excellent catch!
You guys certainly seem to know what you're doing. You actually make it look like fun, when we all know it's deadly serious business.
Guess you could call this "second-hand poaching"---taking bits and pieces off an animal once it's been legitimately taken. The perpetrators remind me of hyenas, except that hyenas have better manners---they at least wait until after the lions have eaten. Nonetheless, congratulations on that big one! And you guys watch yourselves! |

I always love these threads of yours. Have you ever considered being a guide and offering these hunts? Might make a pretty penny, but then again I am guessing that the tags you get are not permitted for guided hunts to the public, right?
