Got a small Crescent wrench?
Take the grips and sideplate off and cock the hammer. Turn the wrench down to where it will just go over the compressed V spring. Then pull the trigger and ease the hammer down, leaving the spring in the wrench as a "cramp." Take the old one out and by hook or crook compress the replacement into the cramp. Set it into position and cock the hammer, compressing the spring all the way and letting the cramp go. Don't go squeezing on the spring with ordinary pliers that will scratch it or even bend it permanently or break it. |

I am curious as to the need to change that spring; they very rarely fail or weaken. But if you have to:
If you have a spring vise, use it. If not, pad the jaws of a pair of pliers with adhesive tape. Remove the sideplate, then pull the mainspring out far enough at the back that you can hold it from the side with the pliers and compress it. Keeping the spring compressed, swing the hammer stirrup forward to unhook it from the spring tabs, and remove the spring. Release the spring slowly as a sudden release from tension can break a V spring. Install in reverse. You should not have to remove the rebound lever. Jim |
