Clean ammo?

At the range yesterday with my Ruger Blackhawk .357mag I brought the wrong ammo box and all I had was a box of Blazer Brass .38special 125gr FMJ (flat nose). We shot over 25rds at targets. Fair enough accuracy. But I thought there was going to be lots of carbon in the cylinder. I normally shoot some special .357mag reloads to avoid the carbon buildup.

At home when I cleaned the revolver I was amazed at the first patch as it came out of the bore with just some smudges. Same for the cylinder. I did followup using a brush in the cylinder with very little carbon showing up.
This is ammo made by CCI/Speer and seems very clean.

Do you have ammo that shoots clean? Or what's the dirty ammo you've shot?

Dirty ammo I have shot is Remington 125GR Golden Sabers. Clean powders I have reloaded with are Accurate Arms 5 and 7. Powders I do not reload with any more are 2400. My experience is the smaller the load of powder with a 125 gr bullet works better than a heavy load of another powder. Slower burning powders will leave carbon and unburned powder all over your gun. In my Colt Python, it tends to jam up the cylinder and crane to where I have to add a drop of oil even at the range. Changing powders a few years ago fixed that. Good luck.

Federal Champion along with Blazer Brass is pretty clean.

The dirtiest ammo I recall ever shooting was some Fiocchi ammo I had in 9mm Makarov. As far as clean goes, I don't know if it is the cleanest I've shot but all of the ammunition I have bought from Underwood ammunition has been very clean.

By far the dirtiest I have used was handloads using Unique - they call it 'flammable dirt' for good reason! Jammed up my Colt M1991A1 and Ruger Securitysix til both failed. I guess the garden liked the extra nitrogen from that pound of powder......

Remington and Fiocchi are undoubtedly some of the dirtiest ammo I have ever shot. I find that S & B and Federal are fairly clean. Recently shot two 100 round boxes of Winchester White Box (.45ACP) and couldn't believe how dirty my gun was. I never remember Winchester being that dirty before. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Remington / UMC and Mag Tech are both very dirty.

I can't really claim that any ammo is clean as they are all just various shades of dirty.

That's right, shooting Mag Tech is like dragging your gun through a mud puddle.
Probably wouldn't shoot that stuff any more unless someone gave it to me.
