Crossbolt needed?

I am re-stocking a sporterized 30-06, '17 Enfield. (US Rifle of 1917) The original GI stock had a steel crossbolt just forward of the magazine well.
This rifle will be pillar bedded and epoxy bedded with a free floated barrel in a walnut stock.
Is a steel crossbolt still needed for strength or is it overkill?

Uhhh yeah, purist don't get your panties in a wad, this rifle was originally sporterized over 40 years ago, long before I owned it.

.

Most likely, if the stock is good/walnut, the crossbolt would only be needed if an alteration to a belted magnum is in it's future.

I dunno if I would use a crossbolt or not- but having the plugged holes adds kind of a classy touch. Plugged or filled, sanded, and polished- not sure how Winchester did it- but I always like the looks of it.

I recently brought a 1917 back to original configgeration with a Boyds stock, and I did the crossbolth thing. With your bedding- I don't think it's needed either, but it does look nice when it's filled.

No it's not necessary.

Thanks folks,
I'm spending a lot of time and a bit of money re-doing a project of a few years back & want to correct all the mistakes I made then.
I want to do it right this time.

I got one of these:

It did not fit the $41 Mauser stocks I got from Numrich that need them.

Today I am designing and building a recoil lug for a Mosin Nagant I converted to 300Win Mag. I am re inventing the wheel.

That's because you need an original military style 98 type recoil lug. Try looking on eBay for an original.
