7x57 load info, again....

Hello Everyone,

I was just trying to get a sense of things before I buy powders that may be useless for me.

I have 4 rifles I could reload for, but only one I am asking about right now: my 1895 Chilean Mauser in 7x57.

I have about 800 pulled 170-175gr Spitzer bullets pulled from FN-made surplus ammo [made around 1970 in Belgium] that I want to begin loading for.

My rifle has the factory barrel and seems to really like this bullet weight.

Once I burn up ALL of my surplus ammo and rounds, then I may rebarrel [I have an Adams and Barnett barrel in the wrapper waiting] and move to a lower bullet weight.

My primary use for the rifle is plinking/target use. Don't take this the wrong way: I don't hunt. I have nothing against it, but bullet and bullet selection for dropping deer/antelope/elk are not relevant to me. I'd have to carry solid copper rounds for that anyway [where I live].

So, 175gr round for general range use, from 200-450 yards.

I'm liking the low pressure and high power of the Hodgdon Hybrid 100v, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this?

Also, would this be fine with both 175gr AND 150/160gr, for low pressure but substantial power?

I do NOT want to overpressure the system. I do NOT want the largest fireball possible to follow the bullet out the barrel [my M-N M44 does that JUST fine, thank you very much]. I WOULD like to be able to load to the higher velocity of safe for my rifle, in that bullet weight, and I WOULD like the ability to fiddle with the powder charge to change the velocity by a couple hundred FPS.

AND, lastly, I would like the SAME powder to work well [without nasty pressure spikes] for the lower weight bullets.

So, does H Hybrid 100v seem to fit the bill?

Should I just ignore this new[ish] powder and stick to either H or I 4350?

Ultimately, I'd like no more than two powders to cover my 7x57 [175 and 150 grain] needs WHEN also covering my .300savage [model 99, 46K CUP I've been told], my M1 .308 and my Polish M-N M44 7.62x54R.

I'm thinking Hybrid 100v for Mauser and IMR4895 for the rest.

Does this sound like a good, high performance, and SAFE setup?

IIRC the model 95's weren't a top notch action. Did a lot of research when I got my 1912 Chilean to make sure it'll handle the same as the 98 action.

I'd keep the CUP on the lower end personally.

I agree. The IMR4895 does fairly well at lower pressures.

I agree with the other posters IMR 4895 would be perfect for Your 7X57 Mauser.

I'd try WIN 760, 40.0-44.0gr, OAL 3.060" WLR primer .....
