Ishy No.1 Mk III cleaning Question...

I recently got an Ishy No.1 MkIII. It needs to be cleaned thoroughly. I made good progress up to the Wire wrap behind the rear sight. Can anyone tell me how to remove it without destroying it? Also, how heavy a load could this action take, it is after all 99 yrs old. I don't feel like blowing something up.

Any help from this forum is grealy appreciated.

What you have is a grenade launcher modified Rifle . Before you tear it apart , check to see if it has any collector value . I've never seen an Ishapore version of this modification ! I'm not into them so there could be a million , but I doubt it !

Actually, I changed my mind about going all out on a tear down. I just cleaned up what I could easily get to. Not a stripping of the metal or the wood stock, just a good wipe down. Got the all the metal cleaned and the wire wrap looks to be copper or brass, it looks good. I do wonder about factory loads though, should I keep em light (150gr.) or brave the heavy (180gr). As far as who made it, it is either Ishapore or Dum Dum, not 100% sure which.

Actually, I stand corrected. My rifle is an honest to god, 1911 Enfield. wire wrapped, #'s matching, .303 No. 1 Mk III. In really good condition. So you might be right about possible collector value. I'll look into it.

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone can provide any info on slugging an Enfield .303 barrel, to determine barrel diameter? I've never done this before and don't want to screw up. Is it difficult to do and what tools are needed if any? Thanks in advance for anyones assistance.
