Took my Mossberg M-590 12 gauge out to the garage, back bored it, lengtheded the forcing cone, ported the barrel.
From that I got two results, one good, one annoying. On the good side, it groups 12 pellets of OO buck into 12 inches at 30 yards, a very good thing for a social gun to do. On the not so good side, now the recoil forces are in a straight line, axial to the barrel. While it's like shooting a very loud .22 rimfire as far as recoil, the darn safety keeps engaging every 4th-5th round. I've tightened everything available and am out of ideas, other than locktite. Just thinking out loud here, but could you get a heavier spring for that safety lil ball bearing safety retainer thingy, whatever it's called? The safety "detent" or something...

I agree with Romulus but you might want to look at the plate under the safety. I had a 500 in a couple of months ago with the same problem. The plate under the safety didn't have a hole to for the detent ball in the fire position. Or if yours has both detents you might try enlarging the one for the fire postition. Measure the ID of the hole and drill through it with the next largest wire gage drill. George

Had one that I gunsmithed that had the exact opposite problem, it was impossible to get out of the safe position without a rubber mallet (which is what the guy was using). I simply broke the edges on the holes in the plate with a dremmel
