I cannot speak for anyone else, . . . but my first hand gun was a 1911, . . . I got used to it, . . . it gives me confidence, . . . I don't question it's ability to put the hurt to who/what ever it hits.

I have never felt as comfortable with a .38, . . . a .357, . . . a 9mm, . . . a .380, . . . a .44 mag, . . . a .45 LC, . . . or a .22. Not enough power, too much recoil, overwhelming muzzle blast, . . . all sorts of different things make me go back to the 1911 as first choice, in .45 ACP.

For the number of rounds, . . . my ability to get back on target after a shot, . . . accuracy, . . . stability, . . . repeatabilty, . . . it works for me.

I just hope everyone else who carries a concealed hand gun has as much confidence in their weapon system. Mine works for me and that is about all I have ever asked for it to do.

May God bless,
Dwight

Well, logically larger bullets do more damage than smaller. It's why we carry hollowpoints not FMJ, nicht wahr? You then have to decide if the (frequently) higher capacity of the smaller rounds is worthwhile. Some people view capacity > everything else, I do not personally but to each their own.

Questioning the need for a larger caliber CCW

First let me say that I carry a .45. I am concerned that a 9mm has too much penetration, and if a shot missed the target it could go through several walls and kill an innocent person. The 9mm short, or .380, doesn't have this problem nearly as much. It makes a good back up gun, I carry a PPK. For persons who dont want a larger caliber it is a fine CCW pistol. Remember that in Europe not that long ago, the .380 was what the police carried as their primary caliber pistol. Practice and shot placement are what is important. If you carry a .22 LR, and you can put the round in a person's eye, or other vital place, you have protected yourself. More people are killed by .22's each year than any other caliber.
