New to me S&W Model 10

I'm trying to find aprox. production date. Serial # BFF54xx is on the butt. On the side of grip there was also a # 366383 I think. It was hard to see with Houge grip screw bracket. I used to carry one like this at work in the 70's. the butt even made a good hammer when needed. I now have much more respect for this fine made, accurate pistol.it came with the new grips, which makes it look & feel great in the hand. I'll be touching up the bluing and keep ( this not considered pretty workhorse) in my collection.
Thanks for any help on production date.

Thank jim

I thought it might have been older with some of the rust & pitting in places. I'll be taking care of that though in its new permanent home.

I have The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson 3rd Edition for Kindle on my puter. Will someone please tell me where I can find the mfr date in this edition?

Serial number range by date starts on page 395 on the hard copy.

I have an old S&W .22 on hold at a LGS. I'm not sure which model it is but the serial number begins 674XXX. In addition to the date can you tell which model it might be? I haven't been able to find pictures to help me determine.

Just called smith. Mine was made in 1998 and the guy told me no plus p.

I just got an email response from smith saying anyone after 1996 is gtg with +p. They said the rep i talked to must of been new.

Ok, I'm going blind trying to find my info in this thread. Sooooooo long. I have an early S&W I'm trying to ID. It's a 4 screw, nickel, .38 S&W CTG, 5 shot, round but, fixed sight 5 digit SN (468xx). Yolk is only marked with a 4503 (not model number). Left side of barrel is marked "Smith & Wesson, .38 S.&W. CTG. Right side of frame has trade mark with Reg. U.S. Pat. Off. and where most seem to have the full address for location it only says "MADE IN U.S.A." It looks to me like an early Terrier but all the pics I can find have the markings different.

I'm helping this auctioneer get the right info.

Yeah, that what the book shows too.
While a +P load will not blow it up, because of the aluminum frame, +P will wear it out faster.

Serial Number search and question: Model 27-2

I have 8.375" Model 27-2 serial number N477xxx -- date of manufacture? Also it has gold lettering on metal surfaces and gold medallions on wood grips -- is this unusual? Good gun? Thanks to you experts!

Are the medalions the S&W logo?
The gold paint in the lettering on the gun is not from the factory.

My new 629-1

I bought a 629-1, .44mag from a friend of mine. I have 2 questions please. Manufacture date, and what kind of frame is it? I love wheel guns, but I don't profess to be ultra knowledgeable. SN AYL39xx. Thanks!

.38 S&W

I have a 4 screw side plate with 1 screw above the trigger guard in front .38
the serial # s 965796 contacted S&W they said I had 1 to many digits in my serial# and if I dropped the last one I had a 1951 MFG. .38 BUT 965796 is also stamped into the back of the right side grip. This a 6 shot square butt blue snubbie, was my father in-law's service pistol he has passed on and any info would be APPRECIATED.
THANKS
