Single Action Frame Types: Bisley vs. Standard

Just out of curiosity--

For those who shoot HEAVY loads in single action revolvers, .45 Colt, .44 Mag, and the others- - -

What's your feeling about which grip frame shape handles recoil best for you?

Ross Seyfreid, a shooter/experimenter/hunter/competitor/writer for whom I have much respect, tends toward use of the "Bisley" shape. He writes of using some real rhino-rollin', buffalo-bustin', huffalump-smashing loads, and he has the trophies to prove his prowess in the field.

Some other, equally reknown, writers (sorry, Ross) seem to favor the older-style plowhandle frames. The late Elmer Keith, no stranger to stout loads himself, likes this style, saying that the nicely curved handle would simply rotate back in recoil, redirecting much of the shock, and allowing for rapid thumb cocking.

Share opinions and experiences, please.

Now that I have this about finished, I realize it maybe belongs in Handguns/Revolvers forum, but this is where many heavy loads are discussed. Still, I may transfer this topic a little later.

Thanks, all--
Johnny

I prefer the Bisley grip. The torque from the "plowhandle" really hurts my wrist.

SKEWED

I prefer the recoil feel from my Redhawks using Pachmayr Decelerators.
Heavy loads, lotsa' shots, more heavier loads, still able to write.

Johnny Guest,

I prefer the Bisley style grip. I have average size hands, but my little finger would keep wanting to slip under the grip frame of the standard grip.

The longer Bisley grip gives me a more secure feeling grip.

Good Luck...

Joe

I do think the Bisley helps with recoil, but I get the standard because I can never hit anything with the Bisley, It just doesn't fit my hands.
